PIEP-KSA Cool Run… To Have Fun
It was around 15 deg. Celsius on 6:00 am of November 22, 2019 at King Abdullah Park in Malaz Riyadh KSA, when the PIEP-KSA Middle East members had out of their abode to participate and be part of the SPICER – PICE – PIEP Fun Run 6 to join other Filipino organizations and have some sort of morning exercise and unwinding. A collaborative effort organized by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers-Riyadh, Speakers of PICE Riyadh TMC (SPICER Toastmaster Club), and the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners- KSA Middle East Chapter, this event was formed by the theme: “Club that Runs Together, Stays Together”This Fun Run 6 consisted of three run event featuring the individual 2-round run, the 1-round x 4-men relay and the individual 100 m. sprint. As the start of the ceremony, greetings and inspiring words was given by the SPICER-TMC Parliamentarian Engr. Bernard A. Pareja and PIEP-KSA ME Chapter President Ar./EnP Eldrid B. Refil and then followed by Engr. Harry Mark II Z. Tolentino who explained the mechanics of the game. The first event which is the 2-round run approximately 4 kilometers length commenced at exactly 6:30 am that is open for all participants. After 20.5 minutes, Toastmaster Angelo Chua from PRTC with Bib No. 2007 crossed the finish line as the winner followed by Toastmaster Marty David, also from PRTC at 20.7 minutes and Engr. Harry Mark II Z. Tolentino of PICE/SPICER at 22.58 minutes being the second and third placer respectively. All participants despite of long journey made it to the finish line with their tired but happy smiles registered on their faces. For the second event which is the 4 x 500 meters relay, all participants were grouped into 5 groups with 4 members each considering their respective club. Five Teams were composed of SPICER-TMC, PICE, PRTC, PIEP and the Toastmaster Guest members. That was really an exciting and fun filled relay game
wherein every team discussed their game plan especially the sequence of runners. From the PIEP Team, it was EnP Eric J. Morales on the front liner
followed by Arch./EnP Eduardo R. Lopez Jr. on the second run, Engr./EnP Edwin D. Bagsit on the third and the PIEP President Arch./EnP Eldrid B. Refil being the baton carrier on the last leg of the relay. Despite of competitive performance by the PIEP Team, unfortunately they fall on the forth place behind the PRTC, PICE, and SPICER Teams who won the first 3 places respectively. After the relay, a 15 minutes rest was given to all runners to let them relax and likewise be ready for the final part of the event which is the 100 meters individual sprint. Most of them were encouraged to run at their
fastest mode and faced the challenge especially those of quite oldies versus the young generations. Everybody is excited and in watch to who will proved the fastest runner of the day. As the runners are in position waiting for the whistle, all non runners set up their mobile phone cameras to capture every moment and each individual run and likewise very excited on who will bring home the bacon. Ready, Get Set, Go. and the race was started after the whistle by the referee. At the very start of the run, everybody was amazed by the performance showed by the 50-year old Engr./EnP Edwin D. Bagsit who was on the driving seat from the first 60 meters but started to overtook by the younger generation of runners which made him in the 5th place. Engr. Harry Mark II Z. Tolentino made it to the first place, followed by TM. Alfred Roxas on the second place, third place won by TM
Kevin Camiwet while the forth place goes to Engr. Rodel B. Galut. After their full recovery of the tiring matches, everybody enjoyed a simple breakfast of hot coffee and tea with assorted breads and boiled egg. Every one seems to enjoy the day despite of cold weather due to satisfaction and the happiness that everyone has shared. The very last part of the eventwas the Awarding Ceremony for all the winners where all Club Representative gave their heart warming messages and appreciation for the success of this event. All winners and fun run finishers received a medal for them to keep and treasure. PIEP participants for this events are Arch./EnP and Mrs. Eldrid B. Refil, Engr./EnP Edwin D. Bagsit, EnP Eric J.
